Karl Schwesig
(1898-1955) A non-Jew German, but a political opponent of Nazism. He was imprisoned due to his political beliefs, but he escaped in 1935 and sought asylum in Belgium. After Nazis took over Belgium, he was sent to a number of concentration camps, among them Saint Cyprien in western France, Gurs close to the Pyrenees, Nexon and others. He made paintings depicting life in those concentration camps.
